Lessons from the Seattle Marathon

I finished the Seattle Marathon yesterday, and it got me thinking about what’s next…

When it comes to physical wellness, I believe our biggest competitor is ourselves. It’s not about chasing medals or podiums—it’s about showing up, improving, and building the kind of discipline and resilience which carries over into every part of life.

Running and training aren’t just about fitness—they’re about creating a foundation for overall wellness, both physical and mental.

Here’s what I’m focusing on in 2025:

  • Improvement over competition: My goals are personal—improving my finish times, recovery, and consistency. It’s about growing and showing up better for myself every day.

  • Always be training: Having the next race or challenge on the calendar keeps me focused and motivated. That structure is what keeps me disciplined, which supports my wellness in more ways than one.

  • Making it meaningful: The best events overlap with other wellness goals—running in inspiring locations, sharing the experience with family, or connecting with great people.

  • Celebrating the small wins: Progress isn’t just about big milestones; it’s about recognizing every step forward, whether it’s better pacing, fewer injuries, or just sticking to the plan.

Physical wellness is deeply tied to mental wellness for me. Training builds the discipline, resilience, and focus which makes me a better leader, parent, and friend.

In 2025, I’m committed to making every run and every challenge count—not just for the sake of finishing, but for what it helps me build.

What about you?
